Portland Based Party Band Sweet N’ Juicy Releases Delicious New Album

Fun and funky trio Sweet N’ Juicy have done it again, lighting up your playlist with their classically exuberant sound in their newest release, third studio album Sex Drugs & Fruit. Clocked as “America’s Funnest Band”, it takes no time at all to learn what the hype is all about.

The perfect introduction to the album, or the group if you haven’t had the pleasure of checking these guys out before, the first track Chemical Craze shows off their dynamic vocals and harmonies  with a set of energetic vocals against bouncy key riffs and guitar plucks. Songs like Drugs in the Neighborhood (part 1 and 2) and Screw lean on a very keys-forward sound, crafting a nostalgic and almost retro sound. Contrasted against the bass-forward PartyHead, Sex Drugs & Fruit is really an expert example of how to showcase such a variety of elements in all sorts of ways while still maintaining an incredibly focused projection of the album and band as a whole, which is incredibly satisfying for the audience.

Every single track sounds remarkably like Sweet N’ Juicy, their sound is defined immediately to the listener by upbeat tracks full of life, energy, and fun, with a keen musicianship that is confident. The music doesn’t take itself too seriously because it doesn’t have to, you know these guys are good, stellar even, they don’t need to sacrifice energy and lightheartedness for the sake of showcase - it’s all already wrapped into one big package.

Sweet N’ Juicy are a breath of fresh air, they’re genuinely skilled, remarkably so, but they aren’t afraid to have fun and let their winning personalities shine.

Let’s talk about these harmonies for a second though, because the layering present in nearly every single song on Sex Drugs & Fruit is absolutely remarkable, capturing the energy of watching a live performance. This high point is present in all the record’s tracks, but really shines on songs like Woof, Something to Smile About, and Bloom. There’s almost this sense of spontaneity the way their voices weave in and out of the tracks, finding their way together right when they need to offer an impactful climax.

But making such a point to capture the magic of their live performances on recording makes sense for Sweet N’ Juicy. In all sincerity, it’s wildly impressive to have released such a quality album amidst their rigorous touring schedule. With over 180 stops this past year from coast to coast, these guys keep the party going as they share their zest for a damn good time with music again and again. If you find yourself with a chance to catch them up close and in-person, jump on it (though with their tour schedule, we’re confident there will be plenty of opportunities to see their party live), because we’re confident a night with Sweet N’ Juicy will leave you wanting more.
