Portland Pop Newcomer Jess Kiaunis Releases A Deeply Fervid Sophomore Single

Enveloped in a hauntingly beautiful and emotionally poignant blanket of piano, Portland based artist Jess Kiaunis has released her sophomore single Fix Me this past winter, and it is quickly becoming a favorite. Marrying both strength and vulnerability, with clean, steady, and technically exceptional vocals that tell a story of doubt, pain, and perseverance, Kiaunis’ Fix Me belongs squarely on the silver screen, scoring an image of a down-and-out-heroine embarking on her newest battle: to heal.

In fact, both Fix Me and Kiaunis’ debut single Pretend share a similar melodic structure reminiscent of the storytelling songs of modern musicals, a songwriting technique that plays to both narrative and emotional connection with an audience. There’s a clear impact and regard in her work, brought to the surface by stripped down instrumentation and a crystal clear voice that rings out with remarkable timbre.  Her music paints a picture vividly for the listener, creating an opportunity to truly feel her work and soul.

“To this day, it’s my favorite and most personal song I’ve written”

Kiaunis, who also spends her time between releases as a vocal teacher, shared with Gumberoo about bringing Fix Me to life, saying of the track “I’ve written about 100 versions of it throughout the years, and never knew if I’d ever release it”.

While it can definitely be tough to let go of something you’ve held so close for so long, and finally release it into the world to stand on its own two feet, it’s beyond exciting that she decided to share something so personal with all of us.

You can stream Fix Me and Pretend on Spotify or wherever you listen to music, and follow along with Jess Kiaunis on Instagram @jesskiaunismusic, or on her website kiaunismusicstudio.com. And if you’re looking for more, Kiaunis shared the inside scoop on what’s to come, sharing “I am working on 3-4 more song releases, and hopefully my very first EP!”
